Satoshi Nakamoto publishes the whitepaper
The anonymous developer Satoshi Nakamoto released the whitepaper 'Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System,' introducing the concept of decentralized digital money.
Satoshi posted the nine-page whitepaper to the cypherpunk mailing list. Its core idea was solving the double-spending problem via a proof-of-work-based P2P network without a trusted third party. The context of the 2008 global financial crisis lent extra weight to the whitepaper's message.
