GENIUS Act — the US's first federal stablecoin law

A federal-level framework for the issuance, reserves, and oversight of payment stablecoins was codified into law for the first time.

Issuers must hold 1:1 cash and short-term treasury reserves, disclose monthly, and obtain licenses from federal or state regulators. It is a cornerstone piece of legislation in the strategy to extend dollar dominance into the digital era. Right after implementation, the market caps of major stablecoins such as USDC and USDT expanded rapidly.
